In today’s New York Times, Michael Winerip makes a startling statement: “There is one thing that characterizes a surprisingly large number of the people who are transforming public schools: they attended private schools.”
We here at Education Sector fancy ourselves as among those who are transforming public schools. So we did a quick survey. And, just for the record, here’s where we went to school:
Richard Colvin: Findlay High School, Findlay, Ohio
Bill Tucker: Forest High School, Ocala, Florida
Kevin Carey: Niskayuna High School, Schenectady, New York
Kelly Bathgate: Olympic High School, Bremerton, Washington
Sharon Cannon: Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Virginia
Erin Dillon: Governor’s School for Government and International Studies, Richmond, Virginia (now the Maggie Walker Governor’s School, and part of the Richmond Public Schools)
Forrest Hinton: Southern Nash Senior High School, Bailey, North Carolina
Renee Rybak Lang: Newfane Senior High School, Newfane, New York
Kris Amundson: Watertown High School, Watertown, South Dakota
Susan Headden: Mountain Lakes High School, Mountain Lakes, N.J.
Robin Smiles: West Side High School, Gary, IN
Elena Silva: Springbrook High School, Silver Spring, MD
So does where anyone went to high school affect where they come down on issues related to education reform? Your call.
